Dear Members,

Starting 1 March 2026, the Basic Housing Units Ordinance introduces a new regulatory regime for subdivided units (SDUs) in residential buildings. Under the Ordinance, only SDUs that meet the prescribed minimum standards of living conditions and are recognised as Basic Housing Units (BHUs) may be let out. Applications for BHU recognition must be accompanied by a certification report from a “Specified Professional”.

A Specified Professional includes registered architects, registered professional engineers (in the building, civil, structural, fire or building services discipline), and registered professional surveyors (in the building surveying division).For more details of the Ordinance, please refer to the Basic Housing Units website: https://www.bhu.gov.hk/eng

List of Specified Professionals
The Housing Bureau (HB) will maintain a list of Specified Professionals on the BHU thematic website to assist the public in identifying and contacting professionals for BHU certification services.

Call for Enrolment
HKIA is assisting the Housing Bureau in compiling a list of specified professionals who are willing to have their contact details published on both BHU thematic website and HKIA official website. This list will help members of the public directly engage registered architects for professional services under the BHU regulatory regime.

Interested Members are invited to complete the Google form below by noon 17 June 2026 (Wednesday) if you wish to be included in the list.
